Bag From Straw Hat Material

Does any one that may be out there reading my blog have or know of a tutorial to make a basket/purse using the miniature hat straw? I want to make one to go in my basket roombox. I've been experimenting but it's not going really well and I don't want to waste a lot of material or time trying to figure it out myself. I don't have a lot of either. Time or materials I mean! HA! I'll see if I can add a pic that will give you an idea of what I'm trying to do. I know I've seen a tutorial someplace but darn I can't find it now that I need it! Of Course! Isn't that the way it goes?

Thanks for any help anyone can throw my way!

  1. Hello! I also cannot remember where I saw such a tutorial, but as much as I can remember there was a kind of "model" used. Around the model was some plastic wrapped which was covered with glue. I suppose you can directly glue your straw around your paper baskets. Sorry for my bad English and I hope you are going to share the finished baskets with a picture!

  3. You would do best to use a lid/cap the shape and size you would like for your basket. Cover with cling film, wrap with your lining fabric with right side to the cling film. Then, start winding the hat straw from the top of the basket and overlapping slightly each row using a little white glue as you go.- When you get to the bottom cut some strips of straw to cover the tucked over fabric. If you want to add handles roll hat straw around some thin wire for a little longer than the length you need bend into arch shapes and glue in place over the fabric lining before you add the straw. With a little practice you can get these really neat. Hope this helps. Gill x
